A lid from a censer, China, Ming Dynasty, 17th century. Bronze with dark patina. Rectangular lid with delicate relief and bevelled edges. Grilled opening for the incense, with grip openings at the side, filled later. In the centre, there is a figure of the God of Wisdom mounted on a female deer next to a stork (damaged) and a tortoise. The rim is crowned with eight minor deities (one is broken off and missing).
