He joined the navy after affiliating with the sea cadets program. Delaney has traveled most of the Pacific Rim during his time in the navy to include Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and Hawaii three times. "Stability and security keep me serving," says Delaney, who has a wife and two children at home. He says his family understands what it means to be in defense service and tolerates his absence during deployments once or twice a year. "I love what I do and wouldn't trade it for anything else." Delaney now serves aboard the Royal Australian Navy Anzac Class frigate HMAS Ballarat (FFH 155), and finds himself in Hawaii for Exercise Rim of the Pacific for the second time in his career. Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971. ( Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Antonio Turretto Ramos/Released)
