Aftermath of powerful earthquakes in Kawaguchi village, northern Japan.
The residents of Kawaguchi village made homeless by the damage to their houses caused by 4 powerful earthquakes which happened within 40 minutes of each other on 23rd October 2004. The earthquake death toll has reached 35 with thousands injured or displaced. Subsequent aftershocks and tremors have slowed down repairs and relief reaching residents of the villages affected. These were the most powerful earthquakes to hit Japan since 1995.
