Cape Evans base in Antarctica. Supplies being unloaded at Cape Evans from the ship Terra Nova (background) during the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). Ponies are at lower right. The Barne Glacier is behinsd the ship. Also known as the Terra Nova Expedition, the primary expedition objectives were scientific. Led by Robert Falcon Scott, a shore party of 33 (including 17 ponies and 33 dogs) landed at Cape Evans in January 1911. They spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. Scott and four others died in 1912 returning from their journey to the South Pole. Photograph by Frank Debenham.
