Vietnam: Vietnamese rebels who were part of the Hanoi Poison Plot. Postcard from a photo by Pierre Dieulefils (21 January 1862 - 19 November 1937), 1908. The Hanoi Poison Plot was an poisoning of the entire French colonial garrison in the Citadel of Hanoi by a group of indigenous tirailleurs. The plot was meant to neutralise the garrison so that Hoang Hoa Tham's rebel army could capture Hanoi. The cooks managed to poison and incapacitate nearly 200 French troops, but when one of the cooks felt guilty and went to church for confession, the French priest reported the plot to the authorities.
