This gang plow is pulled by a steam engine, on the side of which are the words "Plowing Engine."
There are many different types of plow designs. This 1887 illustration shows a gang plow, which, by definition, is a riding or walking plow with two or more bottoms. It was in the late 1860s and into the 1870s that additional bottoms were added to riding plows, which were then called gang plows. This gang plow is pulled by a steam engine, on the side of which are the words "Plowing Engine."
