Umbilical adenoma, light micrograph. An umbilical adenoma (raspberry tumour) is a patch of vitelline epithelium left behind when the vitelline duct (a vestigial tube joining yolk sac to gut in the fetus) closes. It may form in a deep sinus in the depths of the umbilicus, but commonly protrudes to from it like a raspberry. Simple surgical removal is curative.
