Planets of the Solar System. The eight planets of the Solar System are shown in this artwork at their correct relative sizes to the Sun. The planets are shown in order of their distance from the Sun (distance not to scale) from left to right: the tiny 'rocky' planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars then the larger 'gas giants' Jupiter, Saturn (seen without its rings), Uranus and Neptune. The colours and textures of the planets come from data gathered by various NASA space probes.
