In May, 1896, he was elected a member of theBoard of Education of School District No. 1, for theterm of three years. Dr. Lemen has always taken a great interest in allthat pertains to his profession, and has been active inthe advancement of medical education in the West—having for two years lectured in the Medical Depart-ment of the University of Denver; then occupied the. BIOGRAPHICAL. 285 chair of surgery for one year in the Gross MedicalCollege, and for the past four years has filled thechair of clinical surgery at the Medical School of theUniversity of Colorado. In 1887 the honorary de-gree of A. M. was conferred upon Dr. Lemen byShurtleff College. Dr. Lemen is a member of the Denver andArapahoe Medical Society, of the Colorado StateMedical Society, of the American Medical Associa-tion, of the National Association of Railway Surgeonsand of the American Academy of Railway has served as president of the Denver MedicalAssociation, and as vice-president of the AmericanAcademy of Railway Surgeons. He was electedpresident of the American Academy of Railway Sur-geons at the meeting held in Chicago in 1896. Dr. Lemen is a prominent member of the Masonicfraternity, having taken the thirty-second degree;he is also a Knight Templar and a Shriner. Dr. Lemen was married to Miss Lizzie, da
