This photo dates to February 16, 2020, and was taken in South Bristol, Maine, at the Ice Harvest Festival at Thompson Pond. Volunteers gather to cut ice from the pond as they had in the 1820s at this site. The site closed in the 1980s. Today they use the same implements used in the past. The ice was for local consumption primarily. Now the ice blocks are kept and used to make ice cream for the annual Ice Cream Social in the summer.
