Davenport, la. The tropical heat and drought continues, and not a drop of rain for the past three weeks. Flowers never were so scarce as at present. Asters have dried up in the field, and all out- door flowers are very poor. A few roses and carnations are to be had, but these are short of stem and of poor quality. Lilies and gladioli are about done. Sweet peas are also a thing- of the past. In fact, there is nothing good to be had at present. A few funeral orders now and then remind the florist that he is still in business. Bulbs are arriving every day and are receiving the attention of the florists, who, although every day the temperature is above !10°, are mindful of the fact that there is a cold- er day coming.
