Spleen with splenic artery aneurysm, 3D MRI scan

Coloured 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a spleen with a splenic artery aneurysm. The aneurysm (bulge, centre-left) can be seen in the splenic artery (red), which supplies blood to the spleen. Weakness in the wall of the artery causes this condition. Although some people may not experience any symptoms, it can lead to pain in the upper left side of the abdomen. This condition can be life-threatening if the aneurysm ruptures or tears. Women and pregnant people are at a higher risk of developing splenic artery aneurysms. Endovascular procedures and surgery are common treatments for this condition.
