It is a good practise to have a stand of some kind for each hive, even though it is only a piece of board at the front and the rear of the hive, as this tends to keep the hive out of the mud when it rains, and adds to the life of the bottom board of the hive, to say nothing of the welfare of the colony. There are soujc hives that have a combination stand and bottom board, but the majority of bee- keepers use either boards or bricks for the pur- pose, finding them cheaper and just as effective. Whatever hive may be adopted, be sure to stick to it as long as it is a success, for it is a nuisance to have different kinds of hives in the
