6478 Gault asteroid
6478 Gault asteroid (centre with downward trail), photographed on 9 January 2009. Asteroids are relatively small bodies of rock orbiting the sun. This asteroid, belonging to the Phocaea family of asteroids in the asteroid belt, was discovered in 1988. It is approximately km in diameter and has multiple tails (visible matter loss), meaning it is deemed an active asteroid.
