Munnich's Return to Russia

Count Burkhard Christoph von Munnich (1683-1767) was a Russian field marshall and political figure. He took Ochakov in what is today Ukraine after a siege in 1737. But, in the revolution of 1741 when Elizabeth came to the throne, he was on the opposite side and was arrested and then sent to Siberia. When Peter III came to the throne in 1762, he released Munnich. Peter's wife, Catherine the Great, who took control from her husband in 1762, gave Munnich the post of director general of the Baltic ports under Russian control.
