Test pieces canbe made by withdrawing the slide a fraction of an inch atintervals of a few seconds, or advantage may be taken of thefact that the side of the negative which is first illuminated bythe withdrawal of the slide receives a longer exposure thanthe other, thereby giving one the opportunity of exposing thedense portion of an unevenly lighted negative longer than thethinner portion.
