With the Yazoo expedition during the Vicksburg Campaign was the large gun boat called Chillicothe.

In the Civil War (1861-1865), the Vicksburg Campaign (November 1862-July 1863) was major. The Union believed a direct assault would fail and so devised a plan to attack from the rear, a plan that included a canal. In March 1863, Union troops lead the Yazoo expedition. The Yazoo River is in west central Mississippi and flows into the Mississippi River. With the expedition was the large gun boat called Chillicothe. This engraving, which dates to 1866, shows the bow gun aboard the Chillicothe.
