Live stock : a cyclopedia for the farmer and stock owner including the breeding, care, feeding and management of horses, cattle, swine, sheep and poultry with a special department on dairying : being also a complete stock doctor : with one thousand explanatory engravings . arden-ed they seldom do. The seat of theinjury lies in the calcanco-cuboidligament and others lying near it. That form of hock known as curbyhock is most liable to it. The formthat merits that name is curved fromthe foot t6 the stifle, extending back-ward outside of the perpendicular linedrawn straight from the posterior point of tlie hip to the ground. It issometimes called sickle or cow hock. On account of the curved out-liiKi of the leg there is a greatly increased strain on the back of the leg atthe point of the greatest curvature. This is found at the hock, hence wefrequently have curbs on such legs. Causes-—A sprain of the ligaments of the back part of the hock, fre-quently produced during severe exertions in jumping, running, trotting, pulling heavy loads, etc. How to know it.—Standing at the side of the horse, opposite the hindparts, and looking across the legs you will notice a curve on the back andlower portion of the hock, instead of a straight line, as there ought to be.
