Due to nearly a month with minimal rain parts of the reservoir have dried up totally leaving a bed of cracked mud. Despite two reecent days where the North West of England has seen light rain, levels have dropped dramatically in the last few days with other parts of the reservoir at risk of becoming dry. Deep cracks have appeared. According to United Utilities reservoir levels in the region are 17% lower than the same period, and they have warned that a hosepipe ban or other restriction may be necessary if customers do not reduce their water consumption, or the weather changes significantly. Only occasional light rain is forecast for the coming weeks.
