The goddess of charity or mercy,to whom childless women pray, resembles the Christiansymbol of the Virgin and Child, ancient Chinese books tellthat many examples of this style of group were sent tothe Christians, in Japan, during the Kith century. Sheis seated on open roekwork, with the child, vigorously mod-eled, and has a lotus flower in hand. Head has simplecoiled hair with long braids each side and sacred boss onforehead, a simple necklace is on breast, hands and fingersare very delicate.
