Meningeal cancer. Light micrograph of secondary cancer of the meninges (meningeal carcinomatosis). The meninges are the membranes enclosing the brain and spinal cord. This condition occurs when a cancer spreads into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from elsewhere in the body (in this case, an ovary). Cancerous cells travel in the fluid and may grow on nerves, brain tissue and the spinal cord. Treatments include radiation therapy (to slow cell growth) and the administration of chemotherapy drugs directly into the CSF. Magnification unknown.
