As the w-ater flows through thetunnel the air rises to the surface and collects in the airthamber under a pressure due to a head of 325 ft. or 125lb. per square inch, from^ whence it is piped to the minesthre^gh a 24-in. pipe. The water then passes through thetunnel and up the outlet to the river. The plant is practically automatic and requires but one. The aircompressed by this method is free from moisture and maybe transmitted in the coldest weather without condensationand freezing.
