The waterfront was a central place in the city as the meeting point of trade by sea and inland shipping across the rivers towards the plantations. The four ships that lie on the quay and take the entire first plan of the diorama illustrate this function of the waterfront striking through the diversity in ship types. On the far left a sea -to -ship shipping ship (Brigantine) for anchor, to the right of it a pondo with dinghy can be seen. These simple ships with a deck of banana leaf were used by the locals for the transport of goods. With the tent boat that occupies a central location on the Diorama and prominent the Dutch flag, plantation owners and their family members moved across the Suriname River. On the far right a small sailboat used for the transfer of goods and transport of passengers. Suriname Cabinet: Wood (Plant Material).
