Antony Gormley's Exposure looking out over the IJsselmeer at Lelystad, Flevopolder, in The Netherlands, Holland. Constructed like a pylon. Locals have nicknamed it De Poepende Man: The Shitting Man. It has been described as the sitting; crouching; kneeling; squatting man and indeed shitting man or man taking a crap in Dutch and UK press. Asked by officials about lights to make it visible at night, Gormley said no on Dutch television: "It's not an opera". In interviews he has talked about how he liked the idea that the man would be looking at the setting sun each day. It is a self-portrait; as almost always Gormley was his own model.
