Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 2D bathymetric image. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is a divergent tectonic plate or constructive plate boundary located along the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The ridge forms an underwater mountain chain (purple) rising above the surrounding abyssal plain. This area is located at around 45 degrees North and 332 degrees West. The image was obtained by swathe multibeam sonar. For this area in 3D, see image C028/6493.
