The crowning institution of our Presby-terian mission school work in Utah is West-minster College, to which Dr. McNiece hasdevoted all his energies since leaving the pas-torate of the First Church. The social, educational, moral, and re-ligious influence of these Christian institu-tions cannot be tabulated. They have en-tered into the life of the State, and are oneof the influences that are slowly but surelytransforming public sentiment and the lifeof the Prof. John M. The Presbytery of Utah was organizedDecember seventh, 1874, early in the historyof our work in Utah. The meeting to con-summate the organization was held in thestudy of the Rev. Josiah Welch, in the build-ing known as Roland Hall, in which the Epis-copal Church was carrying on its Christianeducational work. The following persons were present, andconstituted the organization: the Rev. JosiahWelch, pastor of the First PresbyterianChurch, of Salt Lake City; and Elders J. , of the same church; SheldonJackson, Synodical Missionary, and the L. Gillespie, of Corinne.
