The Berlin Wall, heading east along the south side of Bernauer Strasse, crossed the road at what is now Mauerpark and headed north, Mauerpark, itself, is a green oasis, well visited by Berliners on a sunny Sunday afternoon, when the Mauerpark Flea market is open. The park is located in the former 'death strip' between the Inner and Outer Walls of the Berlin Border Division. The Outer Border Wall, facing West Berlin, ran along the line of the flea market on the western side of the park. A surviving 30m section of the Inner Wall tops the slope on the eastern side of the park. A grey sky early morning view of marker stones crossing the road at Mauersegler (The Swifts).
