The Blind House, Box, Wiltshire
The blind house, in the High Street, was built in the early 18th century and is square with an octagonal stone dome with a ball on top. It was built for the temporary housing of people before their trial and also after their conviction before they were taken to prison at Salisbury or Devizes. It may also have been used for the overnight accommodation of prisoners from elsewhere on their way to prison under escort. People who became too drunk on market day or at Box Revels would also have been put in there overnight to sleep it off.
