Russia, Moscow. View of the Foundling Home or Orphanage. Institution founded in 1763 as a project conceived by Catherine the Great and Ivan Betskoy. In 1781 the home moved into the first phase of what was to become a large building, on the north bank of the Moskva River. The buildings were enlarged in the 1820s and again in the 1930s.
