A French hussar officer's sabre, late 18th century. Heavy blade with fullers on both sides and etched, fire-gilt decoration against a blued background. A depiction of a hussar and the motto "Vivat Husar" on one side, and the inscription, "Klingenthal" on the back of the blade. Contoured brass knuckle-bow hilt, retouched in the past. Grip with copper wire winding, the pommel shaped as the head of the war god, Mars. Length cm. Cf.
