A large sailing ship with a Jesuit flag, navigating the sea; a man seated in the stern of the ship follows the longitude with a magnet. Plate numbered 16. From Nova reperta, a set of 20 prints illustrating new inventions and discoveries, after drawings by Jan van der Straet. Jan Collaert II or Hans Collaert II (1561 - 1620) was a Flemish engraver and printmaker working in Antwerp around the turn of the 17th century. Collaert also published under the name Jan Baptist Collaert.
