Proposed street Kings Cross-St Paul's. FARRINGDON ROAD. Thos TAYLOR, 1855 map
'Metropolis Improvements. Plan of the Proposed Streets from Great Northern Railway Station at King's Cross and from King's Road, Bedford Row, to the Post Office, and the improvement of the communication from Holborn Hill to Skinner Street, by Thomas Taylor, Architect and Surveyor, Lime Street Chambers, Leadenhall Street'. Artist/engraver/cartographer: Thomas Taylor Esq. Provenance: "Report from the Select Committee on Metropolitan Communications; together with the proceedings of the Committee, minutes of evidence and appendix", order by The House of Commons, to be printed, 23 July 1855, Henry Hansard. Type: Antique map with original colour, prepared for consideration by the British Parliamentary Select Committee on Metropolitan Communication. The map, which is orientated towards the north east, proposes a new road connecting King's Cross Station (on the left hand side of the map), with the Post Office in the City (adjacent to St Paul's) through Smithfield. At the time the map was presented to the Select Committee in 1855, redevelopment of the Fleet river valley into what is now Farringdon Road (marked as Victoria Street on the map) had already started.
