Brain cancer. Coloured composite image of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) scans of the brains, and 3D computed tomography (CT) scans of the skulls, of two 35 year old patients. The patient at left is healthy, the one at right has a glioblastoma (dark area at left). The colours within the brain show the orientation of the white matter nerve fibres. Nerve fibres running right and left are red, those running front and back are blue, and those running interior and exterior are green. A glioblastoma is a particularly malignant brain cancer that arises from the supporting glial cells in the brain. Treatment is with a combination of surgery and radiotherapy, but the prognosis is poor.
