Annual report . consequence of the irregular distribution of quartz in the veinsthe working faces along drifts on the veins vary greatly in appearance, sometimesshowing considerable quartz and at other times almost entirely mineralized por-phyry or other rock with mmute veinlets of quartz intersecting it: The mineralization of the veins has extended over a long period, since therehas been repeated fracturing along the mineralized zone. The primary quartz isgreatly brecciated and fragments of quartz and porphyry have been displacedalong the fault planes. Movement along the walls in the ore bodies is evidencedby grooving and slickensided surfaces in the direction of movement. Informationas to the extent of horizontal displacement may be obtained at the Teck-Hughesmines, where a north and south dike of diabase 60 feet in width has been faulteda distance of 150 feet along No. 3 vein, the part of the dike to the north of thefault planes being to the west. Several large blocks of diabase occur in the frac-. Mineralization even later than this exten-ive movement is indicatedby the presence of gold values along slip planes in fragments of diabase in the faultzone. The unaltered diabase itself does not carry gold values. Mineralization of Porphyry and Syenite There has been an extensive mineralization of poii)liyry and syenite in part-;of the area that extend through the soutlierly part of Kirkland lake. This is apartfrom that mineralization that occurs with the commercial ore bodies. The longcross-cuts connecting Nos. 1 and i veins on the 200- and KlO-foot levels at theLake Shore mine are through rocks. The assay plans show numerous assaysof o-old from traces up to 40 cents with occasicmal liigher assays of rock in thecross-cuts. rock when examined clo
