Small exit holes, produced at short ranges, may often be seen in cases where the bone injury withinthe limb is most severe. At longer ranges, over 1100yards, circular exit holes where bones have been hit areexceptional, and moreover the exits are frequently multiplefrom breaking up of the bullet. The relative positions of the entrance and exit wounds arealmost always correct indications of the track of the occasionally happens, however, that a bullet may be soturned aside by grazing a compact bone that this statementdoes not hold good; but this is quite exceptional. As arule it will not be wrong to consider the line betweenthe entrance and exit wounds as the channel of the shot. No bullets were observed to run in rings or to follow thecontours of the body (Coler).
