Coloured optical image of Halley's Comet (lower left) and the Pleiades star cluster (upper right, also known as M45 or NGC 1432). Halley's Comet is unusual in that it is bright and has a regular orbit, with an average period of 76 years. The Pleiades cluster contains over 3000 stars that are thought to have formed together around 100 million years ago, making them relatively young. It lies around 400 light years away.
