The gold excitement of California brought theparents of Samuel Solomon Green across theplains to the Pacific coast, and like many otherswho foresaw the countrys future greatnessthrough the means of commercial and agricul-tural activity, the elder man became one of thesuccessful merchants of the city of San Fran-cisco. Harris and Augusta (Yogel) Green werethe parents of eleven children, all but two ofwhom were natives of California. His deathoccurred in 1893, while his wife still survivesand makes her home at No. 1160 Golden Gateavenue, in San Francisco. Samuel Solomon Green was born in New YorkCity, November 21, 1853, and was but threeyears old when brought across the plains ofCalifornia. He was reared in San Francisco I. HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD. and educated in its public schools, and aftercompleting the course he sought employment ina dry goods establishment of that city. Laterhe engaged for himself in this pursuit in SanFrancisco and continued so occttpied to the timeof his death, which occurred December 6, experienced the horrors of the earthquakeand fire of April 18, 1906, and lost both his stockand establishment, but, nothing daunted, heopened up in another location after the settle-ment of the disaster and continued to conduct hisstore until his death. He was a man of energyand ability, stanch in his support of public in-terests, and was looked upon as one of the enter-prising and progressive citizens of San Fran-cisco.
