Of this theremay be some doubt, for the narrative of one of the party indicatesthat the harbors found by Gosnold and his companions were twowhich are west of the Acushnet river. However this may be, it iscertain that they were not far from this locality, and the descrip-tions given by the English explorers may apply as well to theappearance of our own harbor in those days.
