He did not follow thecultivation of grain to any extent but gavehis attention to the cattle business, firstmaking his purchases in Ohio and later inIndiana and Illinois. He would come tothis state, purchase two or three hundredhead of cattle and then- drive them to theeast, selling in the markets of either Ohio orPennsylvania. lie continued to engage ac-tively in the cattle business until seventy-five years of age, when he retired to pri-vate life, having in the meantime removedto Cedarville, Greene county, Ohio, wherehis last days were passed.
