Mention has been made of the Nitrate Agencies Co. It has alwaj^s been the policy of this Institution to encourage the farmers to know as much as possible about the fertilizers tliat they use on their farms, and to purchase the ingredients required for making up their fertilizers, mixing these themselves on their own farms or in small cooperatively operated fertilizer mixing plants. As a result of their endeavors here, a considerable number of small mixing plants have been established throughout the Island, some being operated by indiv-iduals, others by companies of small capital, and others by sugar mills for the purpose of being able to supply their cane growers with high quality fertilizers at the lowest possible price.
