UNITED STATES ELECTRIC SIGNALCOMPANY Block signals for electric roadsare exhibited in the ElectricityBuilding by the United StatesElectric Signal Company, of WestNewton, Mass. This signal system,which is the result of a number ofyears careful development and ex-perience in practical use, is one ofthe few block signal systems fortrolley roads that has survivedafter being on the market severalyears. With this system, as thosewho are familiar with it know, an electric car upon entering ablock operates with its trolley wheel a trolley-wire instrumentwhich throws signals to danger at the opposite end of the block EXHIBIT OF GUY M. The signals consist of red andgreen lights, which are thrown into or out of circuit by theoperation of the trolley-wire instruments. The exhibit offersa good opportunity to study the details in the working of thisblock signal system, as all parts are placed so as to be easilyinvestigated. GUY M. GEST Guy M. Gest, the contractor, of Cincinnati and New York,has a handsome sample of underground conduit constructionwork in the court of the Electricity Building. This consistsof one-half of a manhole with the tile cable ducts leading fromit. The manhole is equipped with a cable hanger, which isplaced in a metal slot imbedded in the brick work. The hangercan be put at any height, and only the hooks actually in useneed to be put in place.
