A Persian kulah khud, 1st half of the 19th century, One-piece hammered skull of wootz Damascus, the lower edge riveted and fire-soldered. Riveted crown disc with chiselled and gold-inlaid decoration. Rich etchings of calligraphic bands and cartouches. The front embossed with a panther's head, the eyes and teeth gold-inlaid. Applied gilt horns and ears. Sliding nasal bar, two slender plume sockets at either side. Attached long aventail of open iron and brass rings. Height 61 cm.
