i-LIMB bionic hand research. The i-LIMB range of bionic hands was developed by the Scottish company Touch Bionics and launched in 2007. The original i-LIMB Hand model (left) was the first powered prosthetic hand that had articulating fingers. These fingers, independently powered, are capable of opening and closing around objects. The hand can also be rotated around the wrist. Each hand is made of 150 parts, some less than one millimetre in length. They are assembled in the Touch Bionics workshops in Edinburgh, Scotland, where they are tested before being sent and fitted to the patient.
