UNITED STATES - 08-27-20: Carol Lee and Harold Howard talk during an interview about life and growing up in the village of Willisville and also attending the one room school house. Loudoun County community of Willisville added to National Register of Historic Places. The village was also listed under the Virginia Landmarks Register in September. Willisville joins a list of historic places “worthy of preservation” across the United States. African Americans considered the historic district home prior to and after the Civil War in Loudoun County, according to historical records. Approximately 30 African American communities existed there throughout the 1800s. Some descendants still retain ownership of lots. (Photo By Douglas Graham/WLP)
