Desert winds shift the sands atop a sand dune in the middle of the Rub' al-Khali desert in Saudi Arabia. Arabic for "The Empty Quarter", the Rub' al-Khali is the largest area of continuous sand in the world. It occupies 250,000 square miles and a quarter of Saudi Arabia's landmass.
