Captain Yatess command built several bridges,and cleared the road from Green River to Bowling Green of allthe obstructions placed there by the rebels. So rapidly wasthis work done that the march of the column was not inter-rupted. These two companies, supporting Loomiss Battery,were the first troops to enter Bowling Green. They renderedmost efficient service in crossing the army over Barren River,the bridges being gone. When Buells army arrived at Nash-ville, the regiment was ordered to duty under Colonel Innes;but so highly did General Mitchel value the detachment ofCaptain Yates that he persuaded General Buell to allow him 192 @ ^- .\T r I ^r.
