The corniceof the roof within this chapel contains the abreviated in-scription ifjc many times repeated ; and the same deviceappears upon an escutcheon on each of the buttresses with-out ; this was the usual contraction for icjSU;^ or i^e^u^,the terminal (C) being used instead of (S), after the mannerof the ancient Greek. Jesus Chapel was formerly enclosedfrom the body of the church ; it was used as a school-roomtill 1745, in which year it was thrown open, with a laudable.
