ARABIAN SEA (March 17, 2017) Ensign Jessica Morales, from Chicago, stands conning officer on the bridge of USS Makin Island (LHD 8) as the amphibious assault ship prepares to conduct a replenishment-at-sea with the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193). Makin Island is deployed in the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
