Modern bronze figure of seated Christ by Klaus Ringwald on C16th Christ Church Gate, the S entrance to Canterbury Cathedral precincts, Kent, England.

Bronze figure of Christ (1990 by Klaus Ringwald of Schonach, Germany) on the Christ Church Gate at the southern entrance to the cathedral precincts. The original statue was destroyed in 1643 by Puritan iconoclast Richard Culmer. The Tudor gateway was completed 1517, most probably built by King Henry VII as a memorial to his eldest son, Arthur, who died in 1502 aged 16. Arthur's younger brother became Henry VIII who married Prince Arthur's widow (Katherine of Aragon) and Dissolved Christ Church Priory in 1540. Coats of arms represent trusted supporters of Henry VII and members of his household.
