Atropine drug molecule. Atropine is a natural alkaloid found in the nightshade family (Solanaceae) of plants. It is a competitive antagonist of certain acetylcholine receptors of the parasympethic nervous system. Atropine is a common and essential medicine used to treat pesticide and nerve agent poisoning, a slow heart rate, to decrease salive production during surgery, and in eye drops for treating uveitis amblyopia. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white), oxygen (red) and nitrogen (blue).
